Rails is an extremely productive web-application framework. It is an active Open Source project originally conceived and written in Ruby by David Heinemeier Hansson of 37Signals (Basecamp). Rails focuses on several key concepts that are intended to facilitate fast development and short cycles from concept to implementation. Rails is written in Ruby whose stated goal is to make programmers happy. There are tens of thousands of applications in the world that are built on Rails, some of them are:
Basecamp, Twitter, Livingsocial, Groupon, Scribd and many more.
We will cover:
- Installation and setup
- Text editors
- Ruby basics
- Development best practices
- Rails concepts such as Model View Controller (MVC), Don’t Repeat Yourself (DRY), Convention over Configuration
